January 2012 Songwriters Challenge
Welcome to the Songwriters Circle community of songwriters and learners.
This coming January we’ve decided to make a new and improved version of the Songwriters Challenge available to members as a daily course on a password protected area of the site.
The idea is that by spending about half an hour a day on doing something to move you towards your song writing goals, and keeping it up for a whole month, you will see a substantial improvement in both quality and quantity of songs written.
January Challenge 2011
We ran a month long course on this site and inside a Facebook group last January, which we called “The Songwriters Circle January Challenge” or SCJC.
Nobody knew what was going to happen exactly, but a few of us had enough determination to try and make sure we would apply ourselves to the sometimes tricky task of getting songs written. Each day there was a new document or post added to the group that either introduced a new topic or else set a task for the day, often both. My idea was that you only needed to spend about half an hour a day on doing something towards your song writing goals, and keep it up for a whole month, in order to see a substantial improvement in both quality and quantity of songs written.
By the end of January we had a mixture of results. Some people had come on by leaps and bounds, but many others had seemed to have fallen by the wayside. Maybe other things in life got in the way, or the pace was just too much to keep up over thirty days. Certainly there were songwriters who were saving up some of the ideas and suggestion in order to get on with it in February.
We continued to run and improve the course right through the year. Tasks have been modified and updated and now we think we have got it just right. That is why we are very happy to announce the January 2012 Songwriters Challenge
This January we’ve decided to make Songwriters Challenge available as a daily course on a private area of the site where the registered participants can share with confidence.

For the 2012 Olympics there will be lots of great ideas from songwriters, but how do we get them to the people who make the decisions on who hears our songs? GOING FOR GOLD would be the right song, but it’s my guess that if it can’t be ‘signed up’ then some ‘old pal’ will get signed up instead and we’ll all have to sing along to a less than ‘bronze medal’ effort.
