*3,5 stars*This is one of the first books written by Nora Roberts. She wrote it in the early eighties and like many of the Harlequin books written then it focuses mainly on the heroine and not much on the relationship development. Also, the few hot scenes are the fade out kind. That being said, I really liked her insight into to F1 racing world, Foxy and Lance couple, Foxy relationship with her brother and, how using minimum words, NR managed to create a secondary love story. I also enjoyed the last part better than the beginning.

One of Nora Roberts earliest books. The story is very romantic, a little Rhett Butler. I always love to read the earlier works of my favorite authors. It's so much fun to see how far their writing has improved. Even the best writers keep improving. Especially if they take it seriously, like the great Nora Roberts. The greatest writers are the ones who just keep on writing, and as an avid reader, I say thank you!

I love Nora Roberts books. I really do, but this one just didn't do it for me. I wanted to like Foxy, she had great potential as a character. I just found that none of the characters were developed very much. I feel like I was only getting part of the story. It was very rushed and I know it would have done better as a longer story.

I get it. This was written in a different time, for a different set of people to enjoy. But, I still don't have to like it.One of my biggest issues with older romances (and even some newer ones) is the fact that both protagonists seem to hate each other more than anything, and yet that somehow translates as "chemistry". I am okay with a little push-and-pull between the couple, after all I do enjoy some drama in my romantic ventures, but it just didn't feel right this time around. It probably had to do with the serious lack of character development. Just some bare-bones people with no real personality beyond "these two dudes are pricks that force physical intimacy on their love interests" and "these two chicks totally hate the pricks but also totally love them"The hero is a bit too careless with the heroine, and the heroine apparently flushed her spine down the toilet with her dignity. Seriously, I will never enjoy the teeth-grating trope of a woman crying "NO, not like this" as her "love interest" ignores her protests and "forcefully seduces" her into melting at his touch and enjoying every bit of it. It angers me to no end, because how exactly did it even come into existence? It's not realistic! Correct me if I am wrong, but even in the 80s when has "NO" ever meant "YES"? Don't even get me started on Pam and Kirk's side-plot romance. Kirk point-blank tells her in their first meeting that she WILL end up sleeping with him by the end of the racing season, that's a guarantee, and her response was NOT to immediately slap him silly and walk out the door. She gets her hackles up, but moons over the pig anyway. And of course, the heart-melting confession that she will ALWAYS be second to his driving-career because reasons. Yeah, lovely. Sadly, Foxy and Lance don't get married late enough into the book for my liking, so there is a good chunk of the book featuring their marriage with plenty of uninteresting manufactured tension from his family blah blah blah. I would have cared more if I had met any of his family or even heard about them BEFORE the wedding. It's like Lance farted them into existence after saying "I do". Oh well, it's not like I liked Lance's proposal, anyway. Foxy was vulnerable and scared for her brother after a terrifying racing accident, and here pops in Lance, pressuring and hassling her into marrying him. He even admits that he's selfish and doesn't want to give her time to take it all in and think about it properly, right AFTER telling her that her request for a couple days to think about it"sounded reasonable". awwww, true love, I almost liked him there for a second (For the record, I would have said an emphatic "NO" complete with a middle finger erected in his honor).Although, I will say I love Melissa. She was quirky, clever, and intriguing. I would have loved to see her more, maybe in her own book, but I'm afraid her character would have been neutered, too.

Foxy has never forgotten or gotten over Lance Matthews. Growing up in the professional racing circuit after her parents died, Fox has always been second to her brother's love of the race. But now, ten years later, she has her own life as a professional photographer and she's once again thrust into the racing circuit for a story and Lance Matthews is back.Lance Matthews is her brother's best friend and the money man who is designing race cars instead of driving them. He's always been fascinated by Foxy but never allowed himself to explore those feelings because she was a teenager. Now, his fascination has grown and he sets his sights on getting Fox as his own.

Another shorter Nora romance. Love, hate, tempestuousness with a heartfelt discussion at the end. Fun fluff.

I read this book in the Anthology Forever. I enjoyed the supporting characters but I did not care for the main characters which made this story just OK for me, not a very good read.

Bukan salah satu buku favorite saya.

This book has great dialogue and interesting characters, shows plenty of research into the world of international racing and cars, and has a good plotline. My only problem with it is the title, which is somewhat humdrum when viewed against the contents. Ms. Roberts paints a word picture that brings Monte Carlo and other racing venues to life as well as showing an understanding of people's emotions and reactions. It turned out to an unexpectedly great read. Unexpected because it's a Silhouette Classics from whom I have learned to not expect much. Great because of Ms. Roberts' expertise with words.

It had me for a few chapters on and off. But overall the characters kept flip flopping. For example the main character Foxy, 80s photographer is at times this strong capable woman who is on the verge of being complex- but then she becomes this weepy virgin who takes crap from her man. And did I mention they have to get married before they have sex... right. It's dated. I get that. But it's like Nora Roberts personal style of strong women and capable men who are kind and witty was fighting against the rules of writing romance novels. It was a struggle.

Cute! (hide spoiler)]

I first read The Heart's Victory when it was originally released as a Silhouette romance back when I was a young teen in the early 80s, and despite the fact that the books that Nora Roberts writes now are so much better, this one remains a favorite. It was one of Roberts first books and it shows- it is dated, much too short, and there could have been so much more character development- but there is just something about it that appeals to me, so much so that I've read it dozens of times over the years.

Great book. It involved racing which is one of my favorite sports. Even though it was Formula One I still got really into the book. The book was very good. The contrast between the two characters really kept you going and wanting to read more.

This is a re-release of one of her very early titles. The Robert's style is there, but it's not yet refined, and there is sex that is almost forced and a hero who doesn't quite have enough grip on his temper. Racing driver meets photographer. Older brother's best friend trope.

I know its an older book and I know its a romance in the true sense of the word but I honestly enjoyed this book a great deal. The characters were interesting, with enough depth and extras thrwon in to make for a very good read

DNF. I got up to 30%, which isn't bad for an old-school NR, but now I'm bored with this. (Also, the guy who respects the female lead's boundaries is boring, and the one who kisses her against her will is hot? 80's romance, man: they're twisted af.)

Me gusta Foxy y Lanche. Hacen buena pareja.
