Constable William Scott enjoyed the isolation of the small South Australian town of Marree where he was in charge. But when he received the call from a young man whose dog had found human remains while they were hunting wild pigs, he had no idea how much his life was about to change. With his trained kelpie Lexie at his side, Scott headed to the isolated property – what he found was horrifying. When the forensics officers, along with Detective Sharpe arrived, the one grave site quickly morphed into more. They obviously had a serial killer on their hands – they also had suspicions but could find little else. Scott and Lexie continued their search of the vast area, not convinced Sharpe was correct in his assumptions – with the pattern being uncovered pointing toward the Bible; the rituals of cruelty showing the killer to be a sadistic and evil psychopath, they all knew they had to move fast. With Detective Bell in charge in Adelaide and the crime scene in the vast Australian outback yielding little, could they manage to locate the killer before he struck again? Dark and sinister with an incredible amount of evil begins Aussie author Jenni Boyd’s latest novel, Faith. The early chapters are also heavy with religion. But once Constable William Scott becomes involved, the story moves into the mystery/crime genre with ease. The plot is an excellent one, though I was a little disconcerted by the graphic violence; and the need for an editor to tidy up the story. Faith is a gritty psychological thriller which I recommend to fans of the genre. With thanks to the author for my digital copy to read and review.
If you are looking for a thrilling read with many twists & turns Faith is for you! At the start It was a little hard for me to stick with it because the heavy religious theme in the early chapters, as that's not really my usual choice of genre/theme. After finishing the book though, I realize that the depth of detail at the start is imperative for the intricate details of the story. I'm glad I stuck it out.I really enjoyed it. Jenni writes crime/ physiological thrillers really well. I think this is by far her best written, edited & presented book to date. Faith was confronting at times, intense, really well paced and it kept me thinking. In previous novels by this author the pace has been so quick that I've had to stop reading and go back a chapter to reread what I had already read to fully comprehend what was happening as the pace was just blistering speed! In Faith, Jenni just nailed it perfectly. The pace ebbed & flowed in just the right way to keep constant interest, and keep the story moving forward. The pace increased with the intensity of the chase, and drew back in the right way to show the frustration of the Rocket & Scott in the times when their effort to catch their perp were thwarted. I think the inclusion of the police dog Lexie was really clever, it added another layer of interest to the story that made Scott really relatable & genuine.I'm sure the whole book will be well received! I can actually quite easily imagine this as a film.
As a blogger I love to read new authors. I love reading unique storylines. The author wrapped all this up with a big bow for me. Constable William Scott and his trusted dog Lexie finds a disturbing crime scene when they answer an emergency call that a human body part is found. Lexie along with the forensic officers find more grave sites in close proximity. Scott and Rocket must do whatever they can to find the serial killer. I don’t really want to say more about the storyline as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. I will say that life got in the way for me and I couldn’t read this as quick as I’d like. However every time I picked it up to read I felt the author threw another twist at me. When I wasn’t reading I was craving to read it. If you love gritty psychological reads then I definitely recommend you read Faith. It’s a well written story about finding a serial killer who murdered for religious based reasons. I must say that the religious aspect would usually put me off however I’m so glad I gave this a go. It all fits together perfectly.I’ve read over three hundred books this year and this is definitely in my top ten this year.
