I very much enjoyed the beginning of this book, where the pacing, plot and action sequences were exciting. Hildie McQueen has a brevity about her storytelling, but it is done with aplomb and style. Unfortunately, the plot soon went off-track due to the introduction of multiple romantic story lines. There were so many moving pieces that the main hero and heroine of the story, Valent and Ariana, become neglected. This was an unfortunate decision, because I felt the secondary stories could have been developed into other novellas as a complement to this book. I like McQueen's characters and style, so I will be looking up some of her other books.

This novel could have been much better but it was all over the place. Too many romances, too many stories, not enough explanation. Especially about Valent's abduction as a child. The author never explained why Valent was abducted and by whom. There was a bit of an explanation but it did not make sense to me.Actually, I enjoyed Valent's brother's story more. Steaphan and Fiona were much more interesting characters in my opinion.I have to say, the bedding ceremony was distressing. To have all these people in your bedroom, including your parents when your new husband, who you do not even know, consumates the marriage is beyond horrific. How barbaric.I have read some of McQueen's westerns and didn't realize she is the same author.

I liked the original storyline in the book, unfortunately that's where it ended. There were too many stories going on at once with none of them developed very well. There were also so many misuses of words (passed instead of past, well instead of we'll) that it was distracting.

Ms. McQueen transforms the northeastern Highlands into a captivating love story of how love can conquer some of our most personal struggles. Read full review in the 2016 September issue of InD'tale Magazine.

This was my first time reading anything written by Ms McQueen. It won't be the last!! This was a very good Highlander story, with just the right amount of spice.

Good story idea but... it felt that Valent's and Ariana's story was somehow left with missing information. Also a bit disturbed by other stories... a bit too much of other peoples life's .

Enjoyable storyI enjoyed reading this story. I liked the characters and the theme of twins separated at a young age. I also liked the side stories of some of the other characters. And the ending was very satisfying.

Good story This was a good story but I felt it could have been better. I genuinely loved Valent and Ariana but the storyline swerved away from them to Valent's brother Steaphan and his wife Fiona and Ariana's brother Ceardac and his wife Lily. Valent's past and how he came to be taken from his family was answered but there were questions about it not completely revealed. Why did the man take him in the first place? There were parts of the book that dragged on for me and I just wanted the story to return to the main couple. The scene towards the end between Valent and Ariana seemed out of character for Valent even if he was mourning the loss of his dog. Despite these things I did find the storyline entertaining and will definitely watch for other books by this author.

I read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Highland Archer is a wonderful story of not only an Archer (named Valent). It is also so much more, especially the rivalry between the McLeod and McKenzie Clans. The sub story lines are fantastically intertwined. This story has it all -- bravery, talent, honor, friendships, tragedy, betrayal, love, and, of course, steamy passion! It truly kept me up reading until the wee morning hours.

A good solid readI'm a big fan of Scottish history. A family that I loved were McLeod s. They had the black hair and the most beautiful blue eyes. This book made me remember.
