Who doesn't want to win a contest that would let you be one of seven to run dreamland? Sisters Tristan and Leena Welsh write a winning essay that gives them that chance. Of course, nothing is at wondrous as you would hope and if something is too good to be true, it probably is just that. In fact, the sisters and their family along with the other winners are going to find the quest to finish the journey that was begun with the essay is a supernatural suspense. Readers are going to love this book that tells an interesting tale.
Dreamland, a vast entertainment empire situated in Florida, has requested essays from children to enter a contest. Siblings, Tristan and Leena, send their entries in and are chosen to compete for the ultimate prize of running the hugely popular complex. Their whole family is given an all-inclusive trip to this wonderland, VIP treatment all the way. But this isn’t at all what it claimed and the children are sent on a dangerous quest by Milly, the mastermind, and her minions, who are all some sort of alien race. The children are divided into seven teams of seven and Leena and Tristan are assigned to team seven. As they begin their quest to find the spire, we learn more about the other team members and it doesn’t take very long before the group realizes they aren’t even on the same planet anymore.Tristan and another member, Penny, get separated and end up in a totally different galaxy and time. The remaining group tries to locate them while being held by a race of large birds known as Cracowcks. Leena learns how to communicate with Chirp Swee who seems to be willing to help the young adventurers. This is a wonderfully creative story, filled with new worlds and interesting new species, some friendly, some evil. I believe this story would be amazing as an audiobook with so many creative names and places. Recommended reading for everyone who enjoys speculative fiction.
