This one was better than the first. It had some darker elements which I enjoyed and the characters seemed to have more depth to them. There was a bit more description of the world too, especially in the places we haven't been before. I love Elgar! He has a great sense of humour and I chuckled a few times whilst reading this one.I posted a joint review of this book and the 1st one on my blog it can be found here https://gemmasbooknook.blogspot.co.uk...

Absolutely epic sequel to 'Gabriel's Clock'. It had all the great stuff - really scary bad guys (the 'shroud' things are even scarier than the bowler-hat demons), great characters - Jonathan is brilliant but my character is Cay and she really comes into her own in this one. Gripping plot with some very dark elements but also lots of humour. As if that wasn't awesome enough, it makes reference to M.R. James! Be still my ghost-story-geek heart!
