Not my favourite Sophie Weston, but not terrible. Heroine is a bond trader who dropped out of school at 16. She has an active social life, and can hold her own in conflicts with a variety of people, which is in keeping with her job. She's treated with suspicion by the hero (naturally - this is a Presents, after all), but eventually proves her qualification to be an HP heroine, because she is martyring herself by (view spoiler)[giving up all her hard-earned money to support her mother and sister, who needs expensive treatments (hide spoiler)]. Pros: Angsty, embarrassments of being "trashy" in an upper-crust world are acknowledgedCons: Hero's about-face was not totally convincing, his career as a scientist-explorer seemed like wallpaper - there was nothing about him as a character that really seemed connected to that, heroine's late-in-the-story freak out seems more designed to stretch out the conflict rather than something organic to the character

Well this was disappointing. After just reading two of Sophie Weston's other novels and being greatly impressed, this one destroyed me. I thought it was pretty close to horrible. The only reason I gave it a two star rating was due to the heroine and her efforts in the novel. Other than that, it's down the poop shoot.

Good read but Nikolai is a little too persistent, but well apart from that, good story. Love the story of Lisa.
