2.5 stars. Writing was ok, gave me a historical vibe. But I hated how the hero treated the heroine. Sex with OW around 50-60% basically it was a threesome. He didn't even have the decency to use a condom when he fucked the whore and came inside her ass. Gross. And I may or may not read Anton's story.

OMG.. Immediately after reading this book, I had to go research this author to find out if Royally Trained was truly her first book. I was shocked to discover that it indeed is her first. Author Diana Ames is very talented. This book was amazing. It reached out and grabbed me and held me captive until the end. Honestly, if you want a book to escape from reality until the very end, then this book is for you and you need to one click now... I was totally unable to put it down..It had everything in it, in just the right amounts. There was mystery, suspense, love, scorching hot erotic love scenes, and much more. I laughed. I cried happy and sad tears. I laughed and I screamed at my ereader. It was just amazing..It was one of the best written books I've ever read. The author and editor are an awesome team. The characters and the plot were well developed. The plot moved smoothly. The dialogue was amazing and occurred flawlessly with absolutely no confusion. The point of view changed between the characters frequently but was done in such a way that there was NEVER any confusion. The reader always knows whose point of view is being used. Very Impressive Ms. Ames!I don't do spoilers. I will say that I was cheering out loud at the ending. I just can't put into words how much I enjoyed this 5 star book! It is a must read. I will be reading the rest do this series as well as any other books that this brilliant author releases. I do highly recommend both this book, this author and anything else she releases...

I really can't get over how great this book was! What first drew me to the book was the concept of a contemporary erotica novel but with a historical feel. The book takes place in the country of Colania, which is a small island off the coast of New Zealand. Even though this novel takes place in a contemporary setting, it seems like Colania is frozen in time. It’s still a monarchy and most of the country (with the exception of the Castle) doesn’t have modern amenities such as electricity. I got to say that the characters really tore me apart! I was so conflicted and there were times that I didn’t really know who I wanted to end up with whom. Damian is the Teacher at the Dungeon, a sex club that specializes in BDSM. He has been tasked with the responsibility of finding a submissive life mate for the Crown Prince Anton. Damian is one smooth operator, he’s elegant and understated but don’t make the mistake of getting him angry. But once he meets Mellisandra all his experience with women doesn’t help him a bit, because she’s not like all the other submissive women he’s dealt with. I thought Mellisandra was great because usually in these types of books you get a young girl with no spine and no brain, and the entire plot consists of the hero saving the girl from her own stupidity. Not Mellisandra!! Even though her family circumstances place her in a position where she feels like she has to sell herself and try to become the Prince’s lifemate, she can pretty much save herself. She doesn’t let anyone beat her down and she lives life on her own terms. Even though the book has BDSM elements, Mellisandra is not what I would call a submissive woman. Even though she’s pretty kickass I think she also has a vulnerability that both Damian and Anton respond to. Oh boy! Don’t get me started on Anton! I thought at the beginning of the book that I was going to hate him; he seemed like a straight up sadist. As his story progressed and you learn about his childhood you realize that he doesn’t want to be that way. Over the course of the book Anton really heals and becomes a man that deserves to be King. Growing up Anton had two friends Damian and Gilly. I just want to say that Gilly is ten kinds of screwed up! All through the book I thought, “She can’t get any crazier than this!” and then she did something a million times crazier!! But Gilly serves a purpose she adds so much drama to the plot, there are all these twists and turns in the story that will have you reading this book in one sitting. Plus the sex scenes in this book are flippin’ smoking. Damian and Mellisandra have this smoldering chemistry that will seriously endanger your panties. Can’t wait for the next book I need more Anton!!!

I received an ARC of this novel for an honest review. I was in no way compensated. For those of you who follow my reviews I don't give a 5 star lightly...and this was a easy 4 1/2 star read for me. A fantastic debut novel I am honored to have been a part of helping to introduce to and review for future readers. This novel is a unique adaption of current government ruled by a historically influenced royal family. Prince Anton has a sordid past which has shaped him into a sexual sadist. Being forced as the ruling body to marry and produce an heir to continue the bloodline he has enlisted the help of Damien to find him a life mate. In a world where the sex industry is legal and prevalent, Teacher Damian is the best of the best in the art of domination and instruction of those willing to be trained as a submissive. Mellissandra is desperate to save her sick brother and help her parents care for him but when she willingly volunteers to become Prince Anton's life mate she has no idea the danger she has signed up for. Her innocence and purity are desired but will her sheltered upbringing and fiery temper help her or hinder her? The powerful have secrets that the common public does not know about. Can Prince Anton suppress his dangerous and destructive carnal desires to do what is expected of him? Can Damian assist Anton in finding the perfect submissive? Will Mellisandra stay true to herself and fulfill her goals or will she be tainted by lust and devoured by love?I was completely and utterly intrigued by the characters in this story. Prince Anton I absolutely could not stand in the beginning…he was arrogant, demented, and cruel…oh I could go on and on. However, as the story progressed the author did an amazing job bringing out that which made him the way he was…and the transformation that occurred within him was fantastic! Damian from the start was the epitome of the jackass alpha male and I loved him completely for it…though I felt like slapping him several times. Mellisandra was strong, though quite bratty at points, she overcame all that she was subjected to and overcame it…her strength, survival instinct, and growth throughout the story was inspiring. Aside from the three main characters were several others who played active roles in the story…some you will love, others you will despise, and some will shock you. I can honestly say that there were times I wish there had been a little more back story on the basics of how the society was run…this is not a historical, though it has the historical feel with reference to the royal influence on the government. Sometimes I would have a scene pictured in my head one way and a sentence or comment from a character would make me have to alter my "inner movie" of the story because it did not fit with what was in my head…I know I may be weird but this is what my brain does when I read. Without giving spoilers it's hard to express what I felt was missing…but it in no way takes away from the story. I thought this was a well-written novel filled with secrets, lies, intrigue, and pure craziness that will keep you engaged as to how it will all work out. That being said…if you are someone who is not comfortable with the aspect of sexual domination and submission, descriptive sexual scenes, foul language, and calculated murder this is not a story for you. However, if you are one who likes lots of sex, deception, and murder surrounded with love and dipped in a whole lot of crazy get your one-clicker ready! I really enjoyed this book…especially the fact that the setting kept me on edge wondering how the behind the scenes worked in this society…it kept me enthralled and though there is clearly an opening for a sequel it was not a cliff hanger…well not completely. I honestly hope that the author has more in store for us in the lives of Anton, Damian, and Mellisandra because I will definitely be one-clicking away to continue on with their story if she does!

Diana Ames4 Stars This is a great first time out of the chutes book! Diana did not hold back! You'll see! Of our team here at Books and Beyond Fifty Shades I am the historical romance fanatic. So imagine my surprise when I figure out this book is not an historical romance despite it being in the countryside of New Zealand, in an ancient castle, with royals governing the land. There's even a dungeon. The tip off was... The Dungeon is a sex club! Yep... it's one of those. *hands to mouth giggling Like I said, Diana Ames did not hold back. There's a lot of sex and all different kinds: vanilla, rape, double penetration, anal, BDSM, reluctant, willing... the list goes on. So buckle up for these scenes. Without giving too much away, King Anton, has his own demons and is subsequently a sex fiend, but in a highly abusive way. He knows he must find a submissive who can actually put up with his sadistic ways so he may produce an heir to the throne. He has his stepbrother, Damian, help find him one. Damien is a Lord and Master in the sex world of the land. He trains submissives and sends them out to the establishments he owns, plus for girls the royal court may enjoy. One request by King Anton was, she must be a virgin. Yes... always a virgin. Enter flaming red haired beauty Melissandra. She's willing raised her hand for the task to earn money for her family and her dying brother. She thought she knew what she had signed up for, but she has no clue. The girl before her nearly died from the King's escapades with her! There is murder, deceit, romance, adventure... Diana Ames has packed it all in this debut book. Right now it's only .99 cents, so partake in a little debauchery between the pages and let us know what you think.~ A***Review has been done in conjunction with BooksandBeyondFiftyShades. For more information regarding our reviews please visit our Fansite: https://www.facebook.com/BooksandBeyo...***

Let me start by saying the cover is stunning. First impression, I would definitely grab it up because of that. But it wasn’t just the pretty cover that sucked me in, the story itself was enough to make me a lifelong fan.If you only prefer light fluffy reads, this may not be the book for you. It has a darker tone—and I think that was one of my favorite things about it. I was a huge VC Andrews fan when I was younger. So it stands to reason that darker themes appeal to me. Let’s start with Prince Anton; he is dark, and a tortured soul. We first and foremost see that side, and the damage he leaves in his wake. But he completely three-dimensional, and by the end you love him. You won’t even remember when the switch from hating him to loving him occurred.Next Teacher Damian *fansself*, he is brooding, sexy, and protective. Even though several times in the book you will find yourself screaming at him to shut his trap, he is really a big sexy teddy bear.Mellisandra—I don’t even know where to start with this woman. I think she is one of my favorite heroines ever. What she does is so selfless, and what happens to her as a result literally had me in tears. The world building—holy smokes, I loved it, it was like a historical, but in modern time, I don’t know how to explain it exactly but it is completely unique and I was hooked by the tone. It’s like modern day medieval times. Seriously, one of the most fascinating worlds I’ve read in a long time. All around these are perfectly flawed characters, you find yourself sucked in and truly caring about them. Some of them were perfectly wicked, and the villain, OMG! That is all I will say about that. This book is truly a gem of a find and I can’t wait for the next one.

**I received a copy of this book for an honest review**I thought this was a well written first novel. The story centers around Prince Anton of Colonia, his friend Damien, a submissive in training Mellisandra, and the men's lifelong friend Gilly. There is lies, betrayal, secrets, and some seriously steamy scenes.I do not have a problem reading about difficult situations but this is not for the faint of heart. There is some scenes of sex that are pretty intense and graphic. I loved the characters in the book. Mellisandra is a wonderful heroine that takes control of every bad situation she is placed in. The change in Anton through the book was remarkable. I loved Gilly and her screwed up story line. The only character that didn't do much for me was Damien.I would have given this 4 stars except for two things. The story is set in the present day but the kingdom is supposed to still be in the dark ages. This was a good idea but not executed well. The castle hospital had state of the art everything. Mellisandra would take a bath with jets but by gaslight because electrical lighting wasn't economical.. it was just confusing. Being 100% in the dark ages would have been more interesting.I also didn't buy the love story between Mellisandra and Damien.. It felt completely forced and I cringed every time he would touch her. I grew more into it towards the end.I will be getting book 2 to see where this story continues.

I received this book from my book group and i have to say i was captured straight away!Royally Trained is a darker read.I loved it!!!!It's based within a Royal family. The Prince Anton has serious issues....and i mean serious! The guy needs therapy...like big time!!!At first i hated him, then i began to understand why he was the way he was.His half brother Damien is a dominance expert. He trains all the submissive's applying to be Prince Anton's life mate. The Prince must have a son or daughter and Damien has the job of providing the mother.Enter Mellissandra who applies for the job.The truth is she needs money to provide funding for her brothers medical bills. She is no way a Sub and is doing this to help her brother only.Except Damien then falls for her and doesn't want her anywhere near his awful brother so he beds her and then sends her away with a wad of money and a note to say thanks for your time. The twists and turns after this i will leave for you to read. There is a scary half sister to add to the mix who does some horrific things, a couple of really lovely whore house owners who take Mellissandra in and many other characters who make this story one to remember!I honestly loved it!The surprises, the twists and turns and an amazing epilogue that will leave you wanting to get your hands on the next book!Fantastic read!

For Diana Ames first novel, she did a bang up job! Going in I thought this book was going to be a historical actually, which I don't mind, but I was pleasantly suprised to find out that it wasn't. She took a different twist on a society that even though is modern day time, still lives in the older way of the world. The cover alone was beautiful and made me want to buy it. I can honestly say that I've not read a book like hers. You meet Prince Anton who has some issues and a really dark side. He's just a monster, there is no other way to put it. But later on I viewed him in a different light because of his back story and how he later changes. Then you have Damian who is just hot! He tries to be a jerk but he's just so protective and good at heart, it's hard not to fall for him. Mellisandra is a very strong female who only wants best for her family and I just love her. I don't think she could have wrote a better female lead. Lastly, you have Gilly.....let's just leave her at crazy!!I recommend for everyone to go check out Diana Ames. She has more books coming and I look forward to the next in the series.

*Review written by reviewer Shawna**Arc provided for an honest review*First let me start by saying WHOA, this read was a crazy one to say the least. I was floored within the first chapter of the book. There are three main characters “Sandra”, Prince Anton and Damian. At times throughout the book I really felt for Sandra, I could feel everything that she was feeling and my emotions were all over the place. Anton is something else and has some real demons that he has to deal with while Damian is always there to feed his need. Through most of the book I wanted to hate Anton and I wanted to love Anton I am still pretty undecided on which direction I want to go one thing is for sure I do LOVE Damian there is something about him that is very desirable. As your reading you start to get the whole picture and then Diana Ames hits you in the face with a cast iron skillet and your like wait what the hell just happened are you kidding me, she most definitely keeps you guessing. I am not going to give away anything because it would completely spoil this amazing book but I am telling you right now if you do not already have Royally Trained on your read list GET IT NOW!!!! You are missing out on a very well written and amazing book and I can’t wait to get more of these three!!!!

I received an ARC copy from the author or an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this book. Castles, Princes and Doms, oh my! This book captured my attention from the beginning and kept me wanting to know what happened next. I went into this book with an open mind and no pre-conceived expectations as to what it would be. I was won over its such a great read. There is a lot more to this book that isn’t captured in the description that I really don’t want to give away too much and ruin the experience for you the reader. I do want to say that I am not one for dark/abuse books which was a small part. I was surprise that I wasn't turned off by that part of the story but I guess as a reader I wasn't focusing on the abuse aspect but more of the story and what could have possibly happened for someone to be like that. The characters and their development in this book were awesome. Anton is not my favorite person of the story in the beginning but I do love Mellissandra; she is such a strong women and I can see why both Damian and Anton are attracted to her. Damian is woah!! Hot!Great job Diana, I thought the writing and the story was excellent. You have won me over as a reader. Book 1 was awesome and I can’t wait for the next book!!

This book took me by complete surprise. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to like it, especially with Anton's sadism. It wasn't a healthy sadism and I didn't know if I could go through it. I'm also not a big fan of love triangles or sharing. But I kept an open mind and kept reading, I was very wrong about almost everything I thought this book would be. I was actually torn for a little bit about who I would prefer Mellisandra with. Anton grew in this story into someone I was rooting for. I'm glad the next story is his and hopefully he finds his true love in it. There was some taboo in this story but it never made me queasy, maybe because we find out about it after fact. Gilly was crazy AF! The only thing keeping me from giving this book a 5 star, because honestly, I couldn't put it down, was that I wish the sex scene's were a little bit more sensual. I couldn't wait for Damon and Mellisandra to be together and once they were, it was over in a blink of an eye. All encounters were like that. Otherwise, great story, author was able to keep on track with all her twists and turns and I am moving on to book 2.

When I started this book I was so tired and thought I wouldn't be able to finish it. I thought that the book was just talking to me and I couldn't get into the story at all, so I went to bed. This morning I was gonna start a different book but I just can't stand not being able to finish the book and I'm so damn glad that I finished it. This book has so much to offer. The character Anton especially. I thought for sure he was a psychopath but he was able to overcome many demons from his past. Now Damian, wow that is one wonderful alpha, dominant man. Him taking care of Sandra after punishing her in his dominant way was wonderful and then the pleasure began. The Doctor Gilly, though, just made me squeamy, it's like you can just tell where she's gonna end up. I'm so glad to stick with this story and not judge the book too much when I was dead tired and not enjoying the story because of it. So with that being said if you like gritty stories this is a good one. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Spends most of his time sorting Anton.,,Gilly is crazy!,, mellisandra seems the sweet innocent girl next door type,,Argh!!!! This is a good story but very confusing, really enjoyed the twists and turns in the story has a dark edge to the plot!Story was well written and so sexually heated!! Where to start, where to start? I'm trying to wrap my head around this book that threw me for so many loops but in the end had a nice, smooth finish. One royal, one businessman, and one woman who ignites a hailstorm of changes in a castle that desperately needed changing. Ms. Ames wrote a de-lish, darker story. A story I couldn't put down. The characters kept me on the edge, the sex was some of the hottest I've read, and yet it felt like I was reading a Tudor novel.Really glad I picked up this book and I'll be looking for the next one.

This book was amazing. I was completely sucked in and shocked at all of the twists thrown in. I love how the book seemed to be set on a semi-modernized historical island that still operated under a monarchy. I love how easily I could see the images from the book in my head on each page. I loved how easy of a read this was, and am anxiously awaiting the chance to get my hands on the next book. Great book, and will suggest it to everyone and anyone who enjoys erotic reads.

The anticipation for this book just about killed me but it was well worth the wait! New comer Diana Ames is someone to look out for! I loved her characters and the amazing story of hurt, and healing. I found myself falling for Anton more so than Damien and almost started rooting for him in a way with Mel! Damien pissed me off a few times and I felt like maybe he should have had to fight a little harder for Mel...This book is a MUST READ!!! I can't wait for the sequel!!

This book was really unexpected and fabulous. It is a contemporary read with a very historical feel. This read has everything - angst, sex, BDSM, incest, Prince and Princess, virgins, villains, heroes, suspense and just when you thought you know what's coming there's another twist. I have now become a fan of Diana Ames and can't wait to finish the series.

An excellent debut novel, I loved the story concept and with a little more polish, I would have given 5 stars. First the warning label should be a little more specific, non-consensual, BDSM themes and violence. This is a dark read and people should be warned. That being send the story has a lot of intrigue and excitement. The story grips you from the first pages and keeps you wanting more. The characters are excellent they really draw you in. There are some inconsistencies, either make it they are stuck in the past with no present day luxuries or totally luxurious both is hard to fathom. Sometime with descriptions, simple is the way to go. I want to imagine it in my mind, however, I don’t want it overly detailed and finally no repeats of info, I got it the first time. That said this is a great dark romance and I liked it a lot and am planning to read the second novel.

I gave this story a 2 star after reading it for a book discussion. I am so sorry dear author this story is just not the type of genres I will read. Honestly, I skip most of the part that I cannot take it. The only part I like is the ending where it proved that LOVE can change someone. By this I mean anyone. The reason I gave 2 star was because the effort of the author in completing this book. I know it is not easy and you need to do research and for sure might encounter problems. Others that love this type of story for sure will love your story and I am sure about it. I would like to know what happen in the second book, it just make me curious about it. So, dear author, please continue your passion in writing. Just wanted to say I am sorry for giving 2 star review.

I am not sure what turned me off I think it was the lack of character development and once that happens I sort start picking on evry detail I dont like. I just didnt connect at all with this story. I was just feeling like the characters were placed in the story and who they were was not important. The book has gotten good reviews and perhaps it got better later on bu,t I was 45% in and I was not feeling it.

This book just didn't do it for me. It was third person POV which is fine but it seemed like every paragraph had a different character, which threw me for a loop. It wasn't very hard to follow but could be quite confusing at times.I didn't really like any of the characters either. None of them had any redeeming qualities. I wanted to like the characters and book so much but this just feel flat for me.

Loved itI loved the story line. It definitely was different then any other I have read recently. It had a slow start but then when it finally got going I didn't want to put it down. incidentally the sex scenes were hot.
