Pure Love, Pure Life: Exploring God's Heart on Purity is a non-fiction title for young teens and up regarding the Biblical aspects of remaining sexually pure until marriage. I was really impressed by the way Elsa Colopy tackles the subject, and the voice she presents in her text. She comes across as very open and approachable, but not too buddy-buddy and not too parental. I think this is a very fine line to walk, especially if you're an adult trying to speak to teens about anything regarding sex. She presents everything with scripture and anecdotes to back up what she's saying, but she's not preachy which I also think is important. This is a great book for Christian teens who want to better understand why the choices they make about sex impacts their walk with God. It's also a great book for non-Christian teens who maybe want to understand why their Christian friends are (hopefully) making decisions to save themselves sexually until marriage. I think young adult women (college and post-college) would also be able to get quite a bit from this as well. It's also great for parents who don't know how to bring up things like sexting, or for small Bible study groups. Each chapter has between three and five questions at the end to consider. Thoughtful without being heavy, calling to action without making the reader feel crowded, Pure Love, Pure Life is an excellent, encouraging read for anyone interested or pursuing this topic. I received this title free through GoodReads Giveaways/First Reads.

I grew up in a Christian home, a pastor's home in fact. I've been in Bible studies, church services, conferences - you name it - and I've pretty much heard it all when it comes to the subject of purity. As a 22-year-old, I feel like a lot of what I've heard over the years is outdated and comes from people who haven't really "been there" or "experienced" the world I live in. A world of temptation and a world where purity isn't always the most "popular" option. Elsa's book on purity really hit home with me. I love how she is transparent about her own journey and real about the struggles teens face today. Reading Elsa's book is like sitting over coffee with a friend discussing the issues that really matter, and WHY they matter. This book is not like the purity books I've read before - its actually RELEVANT (who woulda thunk it??)! I would recommend this book to anyone! Whether you're just starting your purity journey or you've been on it for awhile now, you'll agree this was definitely worth your time.

Elsa Kok Colopy was raised in a family that went to church. She was a boy crazy elementary student. She was looking for her knight in shining armor that she saw in all the tv shows and movies that she grew up watching. When she got into her teenage years, she began having sex. As an adult, she got married, had a child and got divorced. She realized that she needed to turn to God. She saw that He wanted to be her knight in shining armor. Slowly, she turned back to Him. She discovered that living pure was what she thought, did, saw, and chose to experience. After twelve years of being a single mom, she met her husband and they kept their dating relationship pure. They choose not to be sexually involved until they were married.Pure Love Pure Life explains Elsa's journey to purity. It also shows the reader had to stay or get on the path to purity. This is a book geared toward teenage girls, but it can be beneficial to anyone who reads it. Elsa points out that God not only wants us to be sexually pure but also pure in heart, mind, and body. This book focuses on sexual purity but Elsa explains that everyone needs to have an all-around pure life in God. She makes the point that you need to know why God wants you to stay pure, if you are going to stay pure. There are Bible verses throughout this book that show us how to live pure. We learn there are benefits of purity and consequences of impurity. This book is great to show that we should be getting our view of sex from God and the Bible not from music, television, magazines, or the Internet. At the end of each chapter there are discussion/journal questions to help bring everything together. There are questions and answers at the end of the book on subjects that weren't discussed in the book. This book doesn't preach to the reader. The author has "been there and done that". She wants to keep others from making the same mistakes. She gives great examples of how and why to stay sexually pure. I would definitely recommend this book for teenagers before or after they start dating. This book will help parents get a better understanding of how to discuss boy/girl relationships with their children. The most important point that Elsa makes is that because you haven't always lead a pure life it doesn't mean you can start living it now. The saying “Today is the first day of the rest of your life!” holds true.I received a free copy of this book from ZStreet for my honest review.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.I am a Christian teenager, and to be honest this book really opened my eyes. It had so much meaning and words of comfort. This book tells about how even though someone might have made mistakes in the past that God still loves them and wants only the best for them. This book would be wonderful for any teenage girl, it could help set them on the right path, bring them to our Father in Heaven or closer to Him. This book is full of TRUTH, and we all need truth in our lives.God bless :) <3

This book is amazing! It breaks down purity onto parts and gives all the info on the subject as possible. It's also great because real stories are shared... It's so encouraging and it has helped me SO much. I especially liked the part about how guys feel the same way about it as I do- sometimes I get afraid that my future husband isn't going to be able to save himself, so that was great to read.Overall, i thought this book was really awesome. Thanks, Z Street Team for letting me read this!

Goodreads First Reads WinnerPure Love Pure Life explains author Elsa Kok Colopy’s journey to purity. It gives the reader a chance to see how to get on or not stray from the path to purity. I am not a person of faith, yet I truly enjoy reading books on the subject to see how others view it and also because the works are usually exceptionally well-written. Pure Love Pure Life is no different. This is a book geared toward teenage girls, but it can be beneficial to anyone who reads it. Colopy points out that God not only wants humans to be sexually pure, but also pure in heart, mind, and body. This book focuses on sexual purity but Colopy explains that everyone needs to have an all-around pure life in and with God. She makes numerous points in which you need to know why God wants you to stay pure, if you are going to do so. There are Bible verses throughout this book that show us how to live pure. Readers learn that there are benefits of purity and consequences of impurity. At the end of each chapter there are discussion/journal questions to help bring everything together. There are questions and answers at the end of the book on subjects that weren't discussed in the book. Instead of focusing on checklists or rules, Colopy points readers towards God's desire that our lives express His heart. Since true purity comes from within, she helps readers focus on the attitudes behind their actions, adding plenty of practical tips and real-life examples along the way.Elsa has such a fun, personal, quirky writing style that's easy to just breeze through but still learn a lot. She explains purity not as a list of rules that negatively encourage response but rather being free.I truly enjoyed her use of true stories and how emotions can lead to sin when not handled properly.Pure Love Pure Life is designed to keep others from making the same mistakes that Colopy did. She gives great examples of how and why to stay sexually pure. I would definitely recommend this book for teenagers before or after they start dating. This book will help parents get a better understanding of how to discuss intimate relationships with their children. The most important point that Elsa makes is that while you haven't always lead a pure life it doesn't mean you can start living it now. The saying "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!" holds true.

Truth be told, if I hadn't received this in First Reads, I probably would not have picked it up. With that being said, I will admit I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book. I expected it to be a little preachy and it wasn't. The author managed to cover topics in a way that reminded me of talking with an older adult who was trying to give me guidance. I am nowhere in the age range of the target audience of this book, it's labeled as Juvenile Fiction, I am 25. I would recommend giving it to kids who are just starting their teens, or teens who have recently accepted Jesus into their life. It covers a wide array of topics, one of which I give major kudos to the author for addressing. Colopy actually brings up circumstances in which your purity has been taken away from you without choice (rape, date rape, abuse). She did it in a very sensitive and in my opinion thoughtful way. I certainly recommend it, and plan to give it to a lady I know to donate to her church library because I feel it is an excellent book for young girls to read. She glorifies the finer points of staying pure rather than highlighting damnation. She surprised me a second time by address same sex attraction. She was very open in saying there was nothing wrong with having these feelings which I found very refreshing. Usually in my experience Christians are very cut and dry on this subject. She said that it was against the preaching in a gentle way which I again was very surprised at. Its hard enough for a young person to go through those feelings, but then to have their church shove it down their throat that it's bad, is worse and one of the main reasons I stopped going. (I am straight by the way, but my mother is not and neither are very close friends of mine.) I feel if I had been surrounded in church by more people like this author, then I perhaps would still be going. This book is an explain of what I feel religion should be: comforting, warm, forgiving, and arms wide open.

Christian Library Journal"My Review: Purity has never been a real concern to society. Magazines and movies, these days show the exact opposite of purity. With the world telling you one thing and the church wanting you to do the opposite. It is sometimes very difficult for a teenage girl to decipher what to do. Elsa Von Colopy helps answer the questions that concerns most girls. From dating to marriage, the author breaks down the in's and out's of staying pure until marriage. With a light hearted point of view, Elsa explains the things she went through as a teenager and ultimately as a grown woman. As society grows more and more deceptive, we need a voice such as hers to tell us exactly what to expect and how to respond. She gives a bare bones truth that I have rarely seen in an author.**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from my participation on the Z Blog Squad.

Review by Jill WilliamsonThere are, like, a thousand books on purity out there, and I’ve read a lot of them. What I felt was different about this book was that it got me thinking about purpose, which is one of my life passions. God has a purpose for each of us, whether we believe it or not. And he is asking us to seek him out and trust him. Lots of people think that believing in God and living for him means that we have to follow a long list of rules. When I first started following God, that’s what I wanted, believe it or not. I wanted to the rules. I wanted to be sure that I would never mess up my life again. But that’s not how it works. We all mess up, whether we love God or not. And Elsa gets that. Man, do I wish I had read this book when I was a new Christian!Elsa walks us through all the questions a teen girl might have. It’s not about setting impossible standards or being perfect, it’s about loving God and letting God love you. It’s about learning his plan for your life and embracing that. Can you imagine? God loves you and wants to give you a purpose while you’re here on this earth. How cool is that? This book is filled with practical advice, true stories of girls who’ve struggled, and discussion questions to get you thinking about how to apply all this to your own life. Totally worth the read. I highly recommend this one.

The Lowdown: Wouldn't it be great to live a pure, undefiled life? In today's culture, a truly pure life is hard to find. Being pure has as much to do with the spiritual as it does the physical. In this truthful, to the point book, Elsa Kok Colopy shares her story of her deep pit of heartache, and the awesome love of God that pulled her out of it. She shares techniques on how to avoid lust, and how to maintain your purity. She uses God's love letter to us as her ultimate resource, and shows how God can restore your life if you just give it to Him.I liked:That this book was a great read, it covered numerous topics. It showed how we are made to love God, and used many wonderful analogies to how Jesus is our Prince Charming. I liked her use of true stories and how emotions can lead to sin when not handled properly.I disliked: At times, I was quite uncomfortable reading about certain topics. Nothing said was untruthful, and was, in fact, necessary. Just a bit uncomfortable.Overall: I would recommend this book to girls ages 16+, maybe even older depending on your specific circumstance. Pray if you aren't sure if this book is right for you. This book was given to me for free from Zondervan for this review.Sincerely,Libbi H.

Disclaimer: I received a free ARC of this via Goodreads.I wish I could have read this as a young teen - Colopy's writing is like talking with a dear aunt or older family friend whose been through some different things and acknowledges that staying pure isn't all that easy. Unlike a lot of other books that try to hammer home the whole "if you really love God this is easy," crap, this books explores different situations teens might encounter and how to honor God through your responses to them. It also doesn't hurt reading it when you're older either - or married - you can still probably gleam something useful for your walk with God from here. As an added bonus, Colopy also doesn't focus on the "do this for your future husband," viewpoint - this is about you and God first, a spouse would be nice, but that isn't the main point.

Though the book is written for teenage girls, I feel that anyone can find this book to be very, very useful. I'm in my twenties and I found this book very intrusting. The book lays out the reason why you should stay pure. In today's culture, a truly pure life is hard to find. But Elsa gives great examples of how and why to stay sexually pure. She refers to the bible a lot, which I like because I want nothing more than to live a godly life and please God. This will be a book I will share with friends and keep on my bookshelf for the day I have children. I am really happy I won this book through Goodreads- Goodreads First Reads Winner.

I won this book on Goodreads.com, and slowly made my way through it. I don't think I am a very religious person, but this book still made sense and was interesting to read. It does talk about God and the Bible, and is based on religion, but it is easy to understand and is not just scripture. The author shares some of her life story and stories from others on living the pure life. It made a lot of good points and was worded in a way that got your attention. I found the journal or discussion questions at the end of each chapter helpful to do or at least to think about and looked forwatd to them.

I absolutely loved this book.Being a teen in this time is hard because so many people are pressuring for sex and making it seem like we have to do things in order to "fit in."But this book was so inspirational in understanding WHY we choose to stay pure. Because you can't just say "God wants me to." Well, WHY does He want us to? What's the reason? Not only did this book provide practical tools in being pure, but it also showed how much God loves me and why waiting is such a beautiful thing.I recommend this book to anyone desiring to live pure - or anyone wondering why it's worth the effort to do so.

This is an outstanding book not only for Youth but for parents and Youth Leaders as well.It is great more religious leaders are speaking put of the immorality among all but particularly youth.Elsa has presented this topic with a light, refreshing but down-to-earth approach. The youth can follow the guidelines and record their thoughts feelings and actions as they follow along with the instruction and scenarios. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway. I am very appreciative of the opportunity to own this and recommend this to others.

First of all I’d like to thank goodreads.com and the author for the free book. What a great book to read and right before Easter too! It is a book that makes you think of your decisions and helps you figure out how to overcome certain situations. Although it has some nice examples of different life situations I was hoping that the author might share more about her life. It seems like her story might be of helpful for women who have made mistakes and need affirmation that it's not the end of the world. That it's not too late to change and live life pure.

My sister had given me this book to read. I read it just because she asked me to. If I was a teen and read this book, wait no if I was a teen I would never finish reading this book. It is a easy read but it's deffinetly not persuading me to live a pure life. This would have been a better book had the author written more about her lif, it seems like she might have a good story to tell. Yet she writes of other peoples experiances. My sister owes me for my lost time reading this book.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm older than the target age group, and I read a lot of these types of books as a teenager. But this one was different- real and relevant and interesting. The author's writing style was great, too- engaging and never boring. I felt like I got a lot from this little book. :) I especially like that it emphasized emotional purity (as well as physical purity), because I think that's something that is often overlooked.*I won an ARC of this book through First Reads.*

I am thrilled to have read this gem of a book, and to have it as a resource to recommend to others. In college, I leaned heavily on Elisabeth Elliot's Passion and Purity, and this book is the Passion and Purity for the new generation. I hope that many young girls benefit from its truth and wisdom and appreciate Elsa Kok Colopy's candid style.

I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. This book is aimed toward teen girls. The author does not come off as preachy. She is open and real, having been there, being able to relate to the pressure to have sex and the modern view that waiting until marriage is outdated. She explains why she came to believe purity is important.

Probably the most realistic and relevant book I have read on teen purity. Elsa hits the topics head on with an honest view of purity and why it matters. At the end of each chapter she has reflection/journal questions which were perfect for individuals or in a group setting. I lead a group of 15 middle school girls through this book and would recommend it to anyone looking to do the same.
