As far back as 1986, scientist and physicist J. Brandenburg, PHD has been researching and publishing papers on Mars, starting first by positing it once contained an ocean, an idea which was considered far out at the time as modern science had pronounced Mars to be little more than a dead planet with features not unlike Earth's moon. Since then the potpourri of data brought back from the many probes and rovers sent to the planet have slowly led NASA to the understanding of Mars as a terrestrial planet in its own right with many mysteries yet to be solved. One of the many eye openers in this book published in 2011 is the authors assertion of active water plumes on the planet, a fact NASA only asserted less than a year ago. This alone opens up the panoply of life's prospects past, present and future on the planet and leads us closer to the certainty that life exists elsewhere in our own solar system. Unfortunately, the science elite ruling class have pushed the author to the "fringe" category while their hoodwinkers like Nye and Tyson peddle the "official versions" of what your supposed to think about the prospect of life on Mars. But to my knowledge neither of those guys have produced a body of research and peer reviewed work at the prolific level of the author. I'm not an expert so I'm not here to claim you should take any of this as the truth. I'm only here to say that if you like thought outside the mainstream party-line that relies on the same educational background, access to data and research but leads to conclusions different than the good ol' science boys club, then you ought to give this compelling and entertaining book a read. And yes, the hard science is included in the appendix for you to compare against your own research. I know some of ya'll are thorough like that.

Honestly, not a bad read. I didn't like how the author refers to himself repeatedly throughout the book (and sounds a little bitter at times) but other than that an interesting read.
